Terminal (MTB) Abu Dhabi International Airport

The airport, located 16.5 nautical miles (30.6 km; 19.0 mi) east of Abu Dhabi city, is the second largest in the UAE after Dubai International Airport, serving around 20 million passengers in 2014. It has three operational passenger terminals: Terminal 1 (divided into Terminals 1A and 1B), Terminal 2, Terminal 3. Abu Dhabi International Airport is spread over an area of 3,400 hectares (8,500 acres). Its terminal spaces are dominated by Etihad Airways, the country’s second flag carrier airline and the second largest airline in the UAE after Emirates. More than 30 airlines offer service to over 120 destinations in more than 60 countries.

YouBIM team worked in partnership with eSolutions, one of the largest solution providers in the Middle East region, to implement YouBIM & Maximo in the iconic Abu Dhabi airport.

One of the main challenges of this project was the confidentiality of the information, including the BIM models of the airport. The installation was on-premise. However, the YouBIM team wasn’t able to participate in the Implementation strategy since the BIM models could not be shared.

This challenge was addressed early in the project: the BIM professionals in charge of the implementation on the client’s side were trained with our remote self-paced online program to have the basic knowledge of the process. In addition to this, a Senior Implementation Consultant was on-site, so she could be working with the real models and not training ones, to clarify any doubts and help them achieve the most out of their efforts.

For the on-premise installation and the Maximo Configuration for integration, our technology experts were working remotely to successfully access their servers and perform installation according to their security protocols.

This project is still in progress, since there is a lot of attention in the BIM for FM part of the maintenance strategy, and several people on the client’s side have been using YouBIM & Maximo, generating lots of feedback on product enhancements.

Our team continues working on adding features that will make the maintenance work at the airport more efficient while developing a stronger relationship with our partners.
